Premature Conflagration

A big blaze in the dark distance across our back garden and the field beyond tonight, leading to my suspicion that some local youths have sneaked along and lit a bonfire prepared for November the 5th, Guy Fawkes Night (Bonfire Night), for their own amusement. Just a suspicion about it being youths of course, with no evidence. It could have been the old ladies of the church flowers committee, the scallywags. Anyway, one less bonfire for Bonfire Night.

  1. Very funny comment about the ladies!! Makes me think of the British comedy, Keeping Up Appearances!

  2. Fire is so often alluring. Part of me does understand pyromania. Another part of me is afraid of fire. Bushfire is an almost constant threat in our summer and so often consumes native animals, livestock, homes and sometimes people as well.

  3. Thanks Joyce. I can see why you thought of that.

And it can be utterly terrifying can't it Sue. Much less of a threat in soggy Scotland though.

  4. Youths are renowned for trying to light those bonfires early. They think they are so clever, but they have a lot to learn ;-)

  5. I like fire connected with marshmallows. Are you offering any?

  6. But then old ladies can "think they are so clever" too, Cherie... I suspect the old ladies. They are always up to mischief in their own quiet way. We have quite a history of claimed "witchery" in our village, and quite a few of our ladies like to continue the tradition.

And no marshmallows Claude, sorry. I am not a fan of that toasted goo.
